The story of Team Clean is a story about Donna Allie; college grad, single mom, founder of Team Clean and today; community benefactor, employer and mentor to more than 550 employees.

Originally unable to find employment in her chosen field after college graduation, Allie was a single parent determined to find a way to support herself and her child. In 1983 Ms. Allie accompanied a friend on a job cleaning a home, and quickly realized that there was an excellent income potential in cleaning houses. She answered newspaper advertisements for “cleaning ladies,” and began cleaning homes throughout Philadelphia’s suburban Main Line.

Allie formed Team Clean and began to respond to those newspaper ads by hiring women herself and sending them off in pairs to clean homes, establishing the burgeoning company’s “team” approach to cleaning. Two years later, in 1985, she took her first commercial contract with the Upper Main Line YMCA and concentrated on cleaning offices under 1000 square feet. Within ten years, the company was named one of Philadelphia’s "100 Fastest Growing Small Businesses" by the Wharton Small Business Development Center.

The company Allie founded on a shoe-string now offers cleaning solutions to clients across 5 core market segments including government, education, industry, commercial offices, sports and entertainment venues. With a market reach that extends well beyond the city limits of Philadelphia, in which it is based, Team Clean, as the largest minority owned businesses in the region, employs more than 550 employees, composed of a highly diverse group of people.

Many are economically and educationally disadvantaged individuals including a large mix of recent legal immigrants. Team Clean is proud of its ability to reach out and work through a broad range of government, religious and other socially responsible organizations to access, select and train the many talented people who are not only seeking employment opportunity but, like Donna Allie twenty-five years before, are seeking to improve themselves and establish economic footholds within their own communities.
